Chromium

[edit]

Gecko

[edit]

Other

[edit]

VPNS

[edit]

Don't really use VPNs, your giving another dude that isn't your ISP, but here are some that seem good enough in terms of privacy

Alternative Frontends

[edit]

Web Apps

[edit]
  • Invidious - A thingy that allows to watch YouTube with as much privacy as you can get, pretty fire, as many has said, it's much better to self-host it then use a public instance. (AGPL 3.0)
  • Redlib - Browse reddit privately (AGPL 3.0)
  • SkunkyArt - The gooners need their privacy (X11)
  • Nitter - Practically most instances are dead, still seems updated so let's go fam (AGPL 3.0)
  • SafeTwitch - Private twitch frontend seems to work (AGPL 3.0)
  • Soundcloak - Private Soundcloud frontend (AGPL 3.0)
  • Ytify - Seems to work well, a new API for private YouTube watching (GPL 3.0)
  • Materilious - A more modern design for Invidious (AGPL 3.0)
  • Freetar - A frontend for ultimate guitar (GPL 3.0)
  • Eddrit - Reddit frontend might work (MIT)
  • Privublur - Tumblr private frontend (AGPL 3.0)

Software

[edit]

App Stores

[edit]

Operating Systems

[edit]

Mobile

[edit]
  • Graphene - The most private you could get with a phone, sandboxing shit and is only able to run on Google Pixel devices ironically. (MIT, Apache)
  • Lineage - Seems good enough if you need an OS compatible with more devices (Apache 2)

Desktop

[edit]
  • Tails - A linux distro booted off a USB using RAM instead of the hard disk to maximize privacy and untraceability. Most often used by pedophiles Also connects to Tor by default! (GPL 3.0)
  • Whonix - A linux distro utilizing two VMS to protect the OS in case of malware and is automatically connects to Tor. (GPL 3.0)
  • Qubes - Does not use Tor but many VMs sandboxed and stuff (GPL 2.0)
  • OpenBSD - Made for security and cryptography (ISC)
  • Arch - Seems very cool with a I think configurable install and seems neat btw (GPL)
  • Redcore - Gentoo for beginners (not really but you get what I mean).
  • Gentoo - Configurable install, customizable and powerful. (Freh siftweh)
  • Debian - Has some security crap which is pretty cool (DFSG)
  • Endeavour - A beginner Arch distro that actually is stable.
  • Linux for PlayStation 2 - The coolest thing Sony did
  • GentooX - Gentoo ported to Xbox
  • Heads - Tails without non-free software
  • Parabola - Arch-based libre option (FSDG)
  • Trisquel - Ubuntu-based libre option (GPL?)

TV

[edit]
  • OSMC - Seems to be the only good one so cool ig

Multimedia

[edit]

Maybe is good most of these I haven't used yet

Text editors

[edit]

I am not one for overly-customizable keyboard-centric text editors as I just want simple crap that has support for other coding languages, tabs and functions well

Media Servers

[edit]

Blogging

[edit]

Manufacturers

[edit]

I know this isn't software but shush

  • Purism - A PC and mobile phone manufacturer known for making Linux products, and by Linux, I mean LINUX, no Android, they are famous in the phone privacy space, and make pcs that respect your privacy
  • System76 - Not particularly security-focused nor specifically privacy-focused, allows you to install Qubes on some models, have a lot more options for operating systems.
  • ThinkPenguin - Do support Free Software, if anyone cares not RYF-verified though, allow customization of your pc, for the OS, you can specify instead of choosing from a selection. They also have a VPN service.
  • Pine64 - Offers Linux phones and other some pcs
  • Vikings - One of there laptops are RYF-verified, sells refurbished laptops and there own desktop and servers with free software.
  • Tuxedo - Probably also not private but is another popular Linux company
  • Lynx R - Make VR, and can be setup with ALVR so you could probably get a piracy thing setup

Communications

[edit]

Networks

[edit]

Phone Number Providers

[edit]
  • Crypton - Accepts the funny Monero currency, 23 cents (at least for me) a message, has a pay-as-you-go usage, plus Iceland got some fire privacy laws

DNS

[edit]

Cryptocurrency

[edit]

Captcha

[edit]
  • mCaptcha - Literally just as unintruding as Cloudflare but private

Code Repositories

[edit]
  • Codeberg - The most popular alternative
  • Forgejo - Host your own stuff
  • NotABug - Does not allow the usage of non-free licenses

Extensions

[edit]

Chrome

[edit]
  • uBlock Origin - A CLASSIC, just manually install it from Chrome you dumbfucks the crx file still exists (GPL v3)
  • uBlock Origin Lite - Weaker, shittier for going on piracy websites, might be fine (GPL v3)
  • Chromium Web Store - Just here for ungooglers who want to extense and update (MIT)
  • NoScript - Pretty cool and epic for blocking 'scripts and enabling some (GPL v3 and later)
  • uMatrix - Might be fire idk, diggy shills it so might be good, a (maybe) good alternative to both NoScript and uBlock (GPL 3.0)
  • LibRedirect - Might go hard idk it's neat enough from what it does, best list of alternative frontends (GPL v3 and later)

Opera

[edit]

Edge

[edit]

Firefox

[edit]

Pale Moon

[edit]
  • ηMatrix - seems like uMatrix but for palememe (GPL v3)

Mail [1]

[edit]
  • RiseUp - Might be the only one, the only thing stored are the metadata of emails before purging them daily. Offers the ability to delete all data stored when deleting email profile. Has stated they would rather pull the plug then sell data, very 'vad of them, plus onion domain.
  • Torbox (tor-only) - Encrypted but you need to encrypt your own emails
  • Morke (tor-only) - Says it's anonymous but there is no privacy policy so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • Pissmail - Not private at all, they can see all your shit and will work with duh gubervent but there honest about it fully. You can encrypt your emails if you want. The service providors admit straight up the protocol is doodoo.

Crowdfunding

[edit]
  • Liberapay - You can't really do the whole "extra perks" that Patreon offers so people won't really have a massive incentive to fund you besides cause. Encrypted exchanges Don't use paypal if you don't want leaks.
  • Coindrop - Seems to offer much more options to be payed in
  • SubscribeStar - Seems good so far, little personal info needed to sign up, is mostly used for porn but I'm sure it offers the Patreony stuff you want like video hosting for users
  • NotOnlyFans - Self-host onlyfans, allows usage of crypto (GPL 2.0)

Archiving

[edit]

Torrenting

[edit]

TLS and SSL Implementations

[edit]
  • OpenSSL - A library for programs providing secure communication over networks. It is used on many servers (Apache 2.0)
  • GNUTLS - A free implementation of SSL and TLS (LGPL 2.1-or-later)
  • LibreSSL - Fork of OpenSSL after a spooky thingy and modernized the codebase (Apache 1.0, BSD-4-Clause, ISC)

SSH Implementations

[edit]
  • OpenSSH - Made by the OpenBSD project seems pretty epic (BSD, ISC)

Game Engines

[edit]

Basic Input/Output Systems

[edit]
  • Canoeboot - All free software with a GNU Boot beef, very limited support. Developed by the same niggas as libreboot (CC0)
  • Libreboot - Mostly free software, needs microcode for some shit, more compatibility (GPL 3.0)
  • Coreboot - Replace proprietary with a lightweight one, I think it has more compatibility (GPL 2.0)
  • Heads - A security-focused alternative to UEFI, drastically limits the amount of distros you can install [2] (GPL v2.0)

Video Hosting Platforms [3]

[edit]
  • DTube - Kinda just "muh blockchain" in the sense of Orbot and Lokinet but seems the best option without self-hosting, also the privacy policy is hard to found but does exist and is quite gemmy. You need to have MetaMask (doodododoo) installed on your device to lock in via the crypto wallet you have on it (here)
  • Odysee - Built on the LBRY blockchain, creating decentralized and decensored environment, at least there is an alternative frontend that only works for videos, just change resolution when it starts acting weird. 16 GB which is big chungus, any resolution is allowed, preferably h264 and 8 Mbps bitrate, pretty goated for mirrors. Muh p2p crypto. The most popular.
  • BitChute - Says shit is encrypted. At least has more detail on uploading, unlike Odysee, where it says h264, under 16 GB, and 8 Mbps. 480p is supreme. You can have any resolution but maybe to be safe keep it to 16:9. LARPs as a torrenting thing. Older videos might not work so maybe reupload from time2time ig? The servers are encrypted so nice ig.
  • VidLii - Any resolution under 3 GB, fair enough. Old style shit. Ultimate customization. Has onion domain despite being non-private. Has a bit of censorship garbage.
  • BitView - Videos under 2 GB small 15 minutes cringe. Old style shit. Made by the nigga of VidLii.
  • KamTape - Actually pretty good privacy policy but garbage 10 minutes under 100mb vids

Video Games

[edit]

Including games made with libre engines, even if the games themselves are potentially proprietary

File Hosting

[edit]
  • Catbox - Seems alright honestly, has a temporary file hostage version, I think the images are non-encrypted though? (200MB (1GB litterbox version))
  • Pomf - Apparently the OG file hosting website, is encrypted (1GiB)
  • Cocaine Ninja - I think this is made by the same guys as cock mail, idk if it is encryped (32 MiB)
  • Tor.run - Is encrypted got some shitty darknet ads, are encrypted (50 MB)
  • Black Cloud (tor-only) - Uses encryption [4] and shit, supports Torbox mail if given (idk if it works or not) (200 MB)
  • Eternal Hosting (tor-only) - Encrypted and is probably the biggest Tor-only file uploading in terms of uploading size (500 MB)
  • Shadow Files (tor-only) - Has nothing on whether or not they are encrypted or not. Nothing said on size.
  • Fluffy File Hosting - No info on how much or on encryption.
  • Ninjabox (tor-only) - Lasts for about 180 days, claims to have keep no logs, no clear thing on file size.
  • Anonymouse Files - Has tor domain, claims no tracking (100 MB)
  • RapidShare (tor-only) - They didn't even finish there privacy policy it looks like a neocities website template, seems meh (200 MB)
  • Uguu - 3 hour longs (128 MiB)
  • Envs.sh - URL shortener, seems temporary (512 MiB)
  • Dump.li - Pastebin or and image uploader, you can choose to make them i2p and onion only (10MB)
  • Gofile - Pretty gemmy I'd say (UNLIMITED)
  • MEGA - Seems cool ig (UNLIMITED)
  • Oshi - Temporary file storage (5 GB)
  • Anonymous Pictures - Deleted if it's not used (20 MB)
  • Easy Image Upload (tor-only) - Seems neat (20 MB)
  • Arav.su Upload - Made by some Russian, kept for 36 bone-chilling hours (128 MB)

Website Hosting

[edit]
  • Freedom Hosting Reloaded (tor-only) - no backups, 512 MB HDD, 1 database, free, claims to offer no tracking or IP logging, FTP, and PHP. No backups lol.
  • Anon Hosting (tor-only) - pretty gemmy of gems, 20 GBs, Nginx, clearnet and Tor domains
  • Hosting Mate (tor-only) - A gigabyte and costs money, clearnet and Tor
  • SporeStack (tor-only) - API-driven VPS hosting
  • Njalla - Made by the dudes behind Pirate Bay, tor and clearnet

Social Media

[edit]
  • Pitch (tor-only) - Seems like Tor version of Twitter, the same way Dread is the Reddit of Tor
  • Dread (tor-only) - Tor Reddit, pretty gemmy o algo
  • Mastodon - Pretty gemmy decentralised Twitter clone (AGPL 3.0)
  • Lemmy - The redditors of the fediverse made by rust commies btw (AGPL 3.0)

Site Online Checkers

[edit]

Video Downloaders

[edit]

Artificial Intelligence

[edit]
  • Venice - Works completely well without JavaScript, allows Tor usage and blah blah blah

Note This Isn't Gonna Be A Comprehensive List of all of them, they will be listed by generation and by what I think is epic and what I would use (although realistically most of these would be on RetroArch)
