The movement seeks to get rid of regulations that protect the environment and convince the public that all the policies and laws surrounding it has a negative impact on society. === Left Anti-Environmentalism=== Several left-wing economic countries (especially the Soviet Union and Maoist China) destroyed the local environment, as they believed green laws got in the way of building socialism. Some notable examples: *Great Leap Forward **Backyard furnace **Four Pests campaign *The Soviet Union **Lake Karachay **Aral sea **Arseny Zverev === Right Anti-Environmentalism=== Several countries with capitalist economies did not care about the environmental devastation either, usually out of a desire for short-term gain. Some examples might be: *Amazon about Ricardo Salles *Industrial Revolution *Russia about Russiaball === Thomas Midgley Jr.=== Thomas Midgley Jr. (1889β1944) was an American mechanical and chemical engineer whose inventions caused incalculable environmental harm, and to this day the effects of his inventions still kill hundreds of thousands and cause numerous disabilities in humans and animals. While handling dangerous chemicals, he discovered that the addition of tetraethyllead to gasoline acted as an anti-knocking agent in combustion engines. This substance was highly toxic, and many employees in factories he managed died from handling it. He only referred to the substance as "Ethil", hiding the fact it contained lead. When questioned about the safety of such substance, he made psecudoscientific claims that the substance was safe, and even washed his hands with the substance. General Motors and other companies quickly began using the substance due to it's price and profitability. Another disastrous invention by Midgley would be the refrigerant Freon, which was extremely destructive to the Ozone layer, and it's use still causes harm today. Midgley would also develop a variety of products which were supplied to Nazi Germany during World War 2. Midgley's health would decline due to lead poisoning, and by 1940, he also suffered from polio, so he invented a device that would help him get out of bed. The device failed and strangled him, killing him in 1944. ====The end and the aftermath==== Despite Midgley's and later General Motor's efforts to supress critics of Leaded Gasoline, eventually more and more reaches found out about it's devastating effects. Between the 1970's and 2000's, increasing restrictions on leaded gasoline were placed. The lead fumes were found to destroy mental development in children, and after the end of Leaded Gasoline, there was a 20 points increase to the average IQ in the US. With all health issues caused by Leaded Gasoline worldwide, it's estimated hundreds of millions have died due to it's usage. The use of leaded gasoline by Western corporations continued in the Third world until 2011, when Leaded Gasoline was eraticated worldwide. Up until 2019, the aftermath effects of Leaded Gasoline killed up to 900,000 people worldwide. The world may take centuries to recover from the catastrophe of leaded gasoline. As for freon, it and other CFC were eventually banned and replaced with HFCs, causing the ozone layer to gradually recover.
