The resistance against apartheid was mostly peaceful, with methods such as [[File:Synd.png]] [[Syndicalism|labor]] and school strikes being used. However, after the [[File:PolState.png]] [[Police Statism|South African police]] fatally shot 69 people in the township of Sheepsvile in 1960, the anti-apartheid movement became more prone towards violence. The year after, [[File:Mandela.png]] [[African Socialism|Nelson Mandela]] founded the [[File:Natcom-Alt.png]] [[National Communism|uMkhonto weSizwe]] paramilitary organization in order to start military resistance against apartheid. According to a trial of some of its leaders, including Mandela, the UMS carried out 221 militant acts within its first 3 years of operation. The group continued operation untill negotiations to end apartheid started in the 1990's.
