"Whatever our Lord says, whatever our beloved Prophet says, we shall follow that path."

Neo-Ottomanism is an File:Authright.png authoritarian right and File:Reactcross.png reactionary ideology that promotes greater political engagement of the Republic of Türkiye with former Ottoman territories, and a revival of Ottoman culture and tradition. It is the successor to File:Cball-Ottomanism.png Ottomanism, and plans to revive the Ottoman Empire.

History

[edit]

Neo-Ottomanism first emerged as a political ideology in 1919 after the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire. The original goal of the ideology was to overthrow the League of Nations protectorate that had been established in Anatolia, which they successfully accomplished in the Turkish War of Independence.

Currently, the term 'Neo-Ottomanism' is used to describe Turkish foreign policy after 2002 when the File:AKP.png Justice and Development Party took power. The Greco-Turkish dispute in the Aegean Sea is considered to be Neo-Ottomanist, as is the Turkish Occupation Zone in Northern Syria, the Turkish backing of the Free Syrian Army, and the Turkish intervention in the Second Libyan Civil War on the side of the Government of National Accord.

Beliefs

[edit]

Neo-Ottomanism is an File:Irridentism.png irredentist, File:Imp.png imperialist, and File:Reactcross.png reactionary political ideology that emerged in File:Cball-Turkiye.png Turkey after the Cold War.

Traditions

[edit]

Neo-Ottomanism advocates for File:Trad.png preserving the traditions of the File:Cball-Ottomanism.png Ottoman Empire. For example, File:RecepTayyipErdogan.png Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the president of Turkey since 2014, has brought about a revival of Ottoman traditions, and put a emphasis on preserving Turkey's culture and traditions. Neo-ottomanists are File:Reactcross.png reactionary, as they call for returning to the File:Cball-Ottomanism.png Ottoman Empire's traditions.

Irredentism

[edit]

Neo-Ottomanism advocates for a return to the Ottoman era, both traditionally and territorially. Neo-Ottomanism calls for Turkey to File:Irridentism.png reclaim the lost lands of the File:Cball-Ottomanism.png Ottoman Empire.

This tenant of Neo-Ottomanism is shown in the foreign policy of Turkish president File:RecepTayyipErdogan.png Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who led Turkey into intervening in conflicts such as the Syrian and Libyan civil wars. In August 2020, Erdogan proclaimed that Turkey would "take what it's right" in the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, and in the Aegean sea.

Neo-Ottomanism can even be classified as File:Jingoism.png jingoistic in nature, as it advocates for Turkey to use military force in order to expand and reassert its authority over former territories.

Religion

[edit]

Neo-Ottomanism is a religious ideology, being influenced by a form of File:IslamNat.png Pan-Islamism. In his aforementioned 2020 speech, Turkish president File:RecepTayyipErdogan.png Recep Tayyip Erdogan invoked File:Muslim.png Islam in order to justify Turkish File:Irridentism.png expansionism, stating: "In our civilization, File:Imp.png conquest is not occupation or looting, it is File:Jingoism.png establishing dominance in the justice that Allah commanded."

Personality and Behaviour

[edit]

He is religious and nostalgic for the Ottoman Empire. Hates the French, Greeks, and Armenians. Complains about Ataturk ending the Ottoman Empire and the Caliphate. Really likes watermelons.
