"Establishing Juche means, in a nutshell, being the master of revolution and construction in one's own country. This means holding fast to an independent position, rejecting dependence on others, using one's own brains, believing in one's own strength, displaying the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance, and thus solving one's own problems for oneself on one’s own responsibility under all circumstances."

Juche (주체 in Chosŏn'gŭl), also known as Juche Sasang, Kim Il-sung Thought or Korean-style Socialism is a File:TotCommie.png totalitarian, File:Cultcenter.png culturally centre, and economically far-left ideology situated at the top center of the File:Authleft.png authoritarian left quadrant. It advocates for a File:Centralism.png highly centralized state with absolute control over political, economic, and social affairs. At its core, Juche emphasizes File:Autarky.png self-sufficiency, File:Protect.png prioritizing independence from external influences, and believes that File:Natcom.png national strength is the foundation of a prosperous society. The ideology stresses File:Cultofpersonality.png unwavering loyalty to the nation’s File:TankieDictature.png leadership, with File:KimIlSung.png the leader serving as the ultimate guiding force in shaping File:ComNat.png national policy and direction. Juche asserts that the path to Socialism is best achieved through File:Isolationist.png resilience, internal strength, and self-reliance, rather than through File:ProlIntern.png external assistance or foreign alliances. By focusing on economic autonomy and ideological purity, Juche aims to build a society that is wholly self-sustaining and devoted to the leader’s vision for the nation’s future.

History

[edit]

The term Juche (Chosŏn'gŭl: 주체사상 Hancha: 主體思想) is a Korean word meaning "self-reliance". The ideology was first mentioned by Kim Il Sung in a 1955 speech. In a speech of his a decade later, Kim Il Sung developed the ideology further, developing its three main principles, those being economic self-sustenance, political independence, and self-reliance in national defense. The ideology was further developed by Kim Il Sung in various other speeches and writings.

Juche has been the ruling ideology of North Korea, formally called the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), since its conception. It, being the governing philosophy, has greatly impacted North Korean governance, leading and contributing to their highly isolationist, nationalistic and militaristic tendencies.

Kim Il-sung did not intend for Juche to only influence Korea, and believed the ideology to have the potential for international influence. Starting in 1976, the DPRK has organized multiple seminars on Juche outside of their own country.

Thought

[edit]

File:KimIlSung.png Kim Il-Sung was the founding leader of North Korea and played a pivotal role in shaping the ideology and politics of the country. His ideology is known as "Juche" (pronounced "chu-che") and is considered the guiding principle of the North Korean state. Juche is a system of political, economic, and cultural beliefs based on several key pillars and elements:

  • Autonomy and self-reliance: One of the central tenets of Juche is the idea that North Korea should be self-sufficient and not depend on other countries. This translates into a policy of economic and political autarky, with a strong emphasis on domestic production and independence in all aspects.
  • Nationalism: Juche promotes a strong sense of national identity and Korean pride. It emphasizes the importance of protecting and preserving Korean culture and history.
  • Political independence: Kim Il-Sung advocated for political independence and self-determination for North Korea in the face of what he perceived as interference from foreign powers, particularly the United States and Japan.
  • Self-defense: Juche advocates for a strong self-defense capability to protect North Korea's sovereignty. This results in a heavily armed military policy and an emphasis on preparedness for war.

Regarding why Kim Il-Sung’s Juche is culturally considered a left-wing ideology, it's essential to understand that politics and culture in North Korea are deeply intertwined. Here are some reasons why Juche is perceived as left-wing in a cultural context:

  • Egalitarianism: Juche promotes equality among social classes and advocates for a society where all citizens have equal opportunities and rights. This notion of equality is a central principle in left-wing ideology.
  • Emphasis on education and culture: The North Korean government strongly promotes education and culture as a means to empower the population and promote socialist values. The promotion of education and culture is a common feature in left-wing ideologies.
  • Nationalism and the fight against imperialism: Juche focuses on the struggle against what it considers imperialist oppression and advocates for independence from foreign powers. This aligns with the tradition of anti-imperialist struggle common in left-wing ideologies.

Biography

[edit]

File:KimIlSung.png Kim Il-Sung was a North Korean leader who played a pivotal role in the formation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, better known as North Korea. He was born on April 15, 1912, in a region that is now part of North Korea. Kim Il-Sung joined the communist resistance against Japanese occupation in the 1930s and fought in the Korean War (1950-1953) against South Korean and American forces.

After the war, he became the supreme leader of North Korea and established an authoritarian communist-style regime. He effectively ruled the country until his death in 1994. During his tenure, he developed the ideology of "juche" (self-reliance) and created a personality cult around himself. Under his leadership, North Korea isolated itself from the world and became a highly militarized and secretive state.

Kim Il-Sung passed away on July 8, 1994, but his legacy endures in North Korean politics and culture, where he is revered as the "Eternal President." His son, Kim Jong-Il, succeeded him in power, and subsequently, his grandson, Kim Jong-Un, assumed leadership of the country, maintaining the political system and personality cult established by Kim Il-Sung.

Thought

[edit]

File:KimJongil.png Kim Jong-Il was the leader of North Korea from 1994 until his death in 2011. During his rule, he maintained totalitarian control over the country and promoted an ideology known as "Juche." Kim Jong-Il's thinking was based on several key principles:

  • Juche: Juche is a political philosophy developed by Kim Il-Sung, the father of Kim Jong-Il, but it was further promoted and developed by Kim Jong-Il. Juche is commonly translated as "self-reliance" and advocates for the independence and self-determination of North Korea. According to this ideology, the Korean people should rely on their own resources and strengths to build a strong and prosperous nation, without depending on foreign influences.
  • Songun: Kim Jong-Il also promoted the policy of "Songun," which means "military-first." Under this doctrine, state resources and power were focused on the military as a measure to ensure the security and stability of the regime. This policy resulted in significant investment in the military, often at the expense of other sectors of society.
  • Personality cult: Kim Jong-Il promoted a strong personality cult, much like his father. This included creating an image of infallible leadership and an almost divine character. The North Korean people were expected to show unwavering loyalty to the leader and his dynasty.
  • Economic reform: Kim Jong-Il embrace some moderate economic reforms to cope with the arduous march, aka the Korean Famine. Such as allowing the opening of private markets, known as the Jangmadang. Kim Jong-Il later gave more autonomy to state enterprise and allowed more freedom to peasant markets.
  • Isolationism: Under Kim Jong-Il, the DPRK pursued a policy of isolation from the outside world. This was reflected in its nuclear program and its refusal to participate in international agreements. Tensions with South Korea, the United States, and other countries were a constant feature of his rule.

Biography

[edit]

'Kim Jong-Il was the supreme leader of North Korea from 1994 until his passing in 2011. He was born on February 16, 1942, in the Paektusan Secret Camp, Paektu Mountain, Japanese-occupied Korea ("Chōsen"). His tenure was marked by the strategic isolation of the country, the promotion of the Juche ideology, and the development of nuclear weapons. Under his leadership, the DPRK, under the US-led international sanctions regime, experienced the devastating Arduous March and international tensions. He passed away on December 17, 2011, handing over power to Kim Jong-un.

Biography

[edit]

File:KimJongUn.png Kim Jong-un is a North Korean politician born on 8 January 1982 or 1983 (the former year according to the DPRK itself, the latter according to Western sources) in Pyongyang, North Korea. He is the third and youngest son of Kim Jong-il, the leader of North Korea, and assumed the position of the country's supreme leader in December 2011 following his father's death.

Kim Jong-un was educated in Switzerland and kept a low profile until his rise to power. Under his leadership, the DPRK has continued with militarist policies, including the further development of nuclear deterrence and ballistic missile programs, which have generated tensions with hostile states (such as South Korea or the US).

Kim Jong-un's biography is marked by opacity surrounding his personal life and his leadership over the DPRK's government. It difficult to obtain accurate information about his life, it having been heavily secretive.

Policies

[edit]

Under Kim Jong-un's leadership, North Korea has undergone a series of changes in its internal and external policies. Most notably:

  • Women's participation: Under Kim Jong-un, there was a notable rise in the prominence of women in North Korean politics. Kim Jong-un had publicly positioned himself as a champion of women's rights.
  • Environment: Kim Jong-un has also positioned himself as a champion of environmental causes, and pushed for the use of clean energy both inside and outside of the DPRK.
  • Economy: Under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, the State initiated a crackdown on all remaining dark markets, replacing them with state-run markets and networks, with the growing opening of state-controlled department stores and malls managed by the People's Service Committe. This is to prevent any unlicensed products and contrabands from reaching the country. However some private markets will still remain, like food stalls or peasant markets run by farmers. He also initiated purges against corrupt officials within the WPK.
  • Marxism: When compared to his predecessor, Kim Jong-un has placed greater importance on Marxist ideology, and has actively promoted it inside the country. In 2021, Communism was reinstated as the official ideology of the WPK, and Kim Jong-un has brought back portraits of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin to government buildings. Along with that, Kim Jong-un has been promoting the values of File:German Idealism.png German Classical Philosophy and File:Babouvism (alt).png French Utopian Socialism inside the WPK.

Juchesasangpa

[edit]
File:JucheTower.jpg

Juche Faction or Juchesasangpa (Chosŏn'gŭl: 주체사상파, Hancha: 主體思想派 Revised Romanization: Juche sasang pa, McCune–Reischauer: Chuch'e sasang pa,) or Korean Abb. Jusapa (Chosŏn'gŭl: 주사파, Hancha: 主思派, Revised Romanization: Jusapa, McCune–Reischauer: Chusapa) was a political faction within South Korea's student movements that supported the North Korean political ideology known as File:Juche.png Juche. It was most prominent during the pro-democratic demonstrations of the 1980s, and was part of the wider National Liberation Faction.

The Juchesasangpa Movement started around early 1986 among the Undongkwon participating in student movements and labor movements. A book written by Kim Young-hwan called "The Letter of One Labor Activist Sending to All Our Fellow Young Students" with the pseudonym "Kang Chol", also known as "kangcholsoshin" (강철서신, Kang cheol's letter), was considered as the textbook of the movement among participants. The movement was also called the National Liberation faction (NL) because it emphasized the "national liberation" of South Korea based on the theory of North Korean revolution called "The Theory of Revolution of People's Democracy and National Liberation" (민족해방 민중민주주의혁명론). However, "National Liberation faction" can also mean groups who did not accept Juche but with the same perception that the people of South Korea should be liberated and reunified under Juche.

Beliefs

[edit]

Main Principles

[edit]

W.I.P

File:Songun.png Songun is a doctrine where the File:Strato.png military is viewed as the most important part of the nation and thus is the most powerful organ of the state that gained presence after Kim Il-sung's death in 1994. It is based upon 4 principles made by Kim Il-sung that are to arm the entire population, fortify the state, train every soldier to become a cadre, and to modernize the entire military sector. The government puts the military as the top priority in resource allocation and for consideration in government policy and decision making.

Great Leader Theory

[edit]

Unlike File:Mao.png Maoism and Marxism-Leninism, Juche doesn't strictly follow historical materialism and its assertion that the development of productive forces are the driving force of history. It instead believes that the driving force of history are people and their ideas (which it claims are influenced by, yet ultimately independent from, material factors) and that there needs to be a lead figure to guide the people. It also believes that said great leader should hold supreme authority since they are believed to be responsible for the overall well-being of the entire country.

Socialism of Our Style

[edit]

Socialism of Our Style, also referred to as Korean-style socialism is an ideological concept pioneered by Kim Jong Il in a speech on December 1990 called "Socialism of Our Country is a Socialism of Our Style as Embodied by the Juche Idea", speaking after the collapse of the socialist eastern bloc, which he stated that socialism in the eastern bloc failed because they dogmatically imitated the soviet system of Marxism-Leninism rather than applying it to their national form. It was used to justify the unique development of socialism in Korea, developing it through the national form without following the Soviet system.

File:KimIlSung.png Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism File:KimJongil.png

[edit]

Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism was declared and synthesize by Kim Jong-Un in April 4th 2012 at a 4th conference of the Worker's Party of Korea, declared as a integral idea of Juche and was the official state ideology of North Korea. The ideology core components are:

  • Juche: The ideological and philosophical cornerstone which promotes national independence, economic self-sufficiency, and placing emphasis on the masses as the driving force of the revolution.
  • Kimilsungism: The revolutionary thought of Kim Il-Sung, emphasizing the people as masters of the revolution and socialist construction, and putting the leader as a central figure.
  • Kimjongilism: Developed by Kim Jong-Il as the further political development of Kimilsungism, incorporating Songun (Military-first) politics, which place the military at a central role for national defense and to strengthen the force of arms to further entrenched the Korean Revolution.

File:KimJongUn.png Kimjongunism

[edit]

Kimjongunism, officially known as Kim Jong Un Revolutionary Ideology, or Kim Jong Un Revolutionary Thought is a term to describe the ideological contribution made by the supreme leader of North Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong-Un, which is built upon to rejuvenate the Juche idea and serving as a political addition to Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism, the overreaching guiding ideology of North Korea rooted in the ideas of Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il. Introduced officially in 2021 following the declaration of the People-First Principle. The ideology of Kim Jong Un traced back in 2011 when he became supreme leader of the country. Which aims to carry the banner of the Korean Revolution fighting for national independence, self-reliance, anti-imperialist resistance, and leading the masses with a strong hand and a personality cult. Despite its high similarity to the political thoughts of his father and grandfather, Kimjongunism held distinct views which may departure from the ideologies of his processor. The list of principles are:

  • People-First Principle: The People-First Principle is the heart and core value of Kimjongunism, a political policy devoted to serve the people and ensuring their prosperous lifes. It mandates that the party and state prioritize the masses' dignity, rights, and interest within the Worker's Party of Korea (WPK), with the WPK acting as a "motherly party". The People-First Principle highlights the move from prioritizing the military to prioritizing the civilians, with the removal and replacement of military leadership within the party, slowly reducing Songun but maintaining national defense.
  • Nuclear Weapons Development: Kimjongunism further accelerated the development of nuclear weapons, which was used as a deterrence against perceived external threats. Which, development peaked under Kim Jong-Un leadership.
  • 20x10 Regional Development Policy: Introduced in 2024, this economic initiative aims to build modern industrial factories in 20 cities in over 10 years, with the goal of improving living standards in the country and reducing disparities between regions.
  • Economics: Under Kimjongunism, North Korea further strengthened the File:Statesoc.png planned economy system and started to enforce a crackdown on private markets which were progressively legalized in the arduous march, and they were replaced with state-run networks and department stores, which would make sure that foodstuff and other items were sold by the state, enforcing a state-controlled monopoly. The reason for this is to prevent illegal "contraband" from reaching the country. Though peasant markets and food stalls still persist.
  • Anti-Reactionary Thought Law: Kim Jong-Un passed File:Ingcom.png The Law on Rejecting Reactionary Ideology and Culture File:AntiReact.png in 2021, which outlawed any content that came from South Korea or any other foreign countries, with the File:MSS-NK.png Ministry of State Security initiated the crackdown by seizing USB drives and punished those who distribute or viewed these types of content, to further promote ideological purity and prevent foreign influences. But some outside observers may held skepticism regarding the law is officially enforced or not, with foreign content, especially western content actually exist in North Korea legally like Disney movies being sold in stalls, a newly-opened Videogame Cafe in Hwasong District which has western videogame titles. But it could be noticed that the law is mostly enforced on South Korean content like kpop, kdrama, and more.
  • Personal Idolization: Since 2012, Kim Jong Un has solidified and built a File:Cultofpersonality.png personality cult and elevated his status akin to his grandfather. Portraits of him are displayed in government buildings, more specifically the Central Cadre Training School where a portrait of Kim was displayed next to Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il portrait, Kim Jong-un has earn titles like "Respected Comrade", "Marshal", or "General", he has built a benevolent father like image where he was viewed as a father of the country.
  • Reasserting Communism: Kim Jong-Un put more emphasis on communism than his processor Kim Jong-Il, Mostly noticeable the party rule. In 2021, the WPK reinserted the goal of "building a communist society" into its rule. In 2024, portraits of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin were predominantly displayed at the newly opened Central Cadre Training School, which highlights the Marxist revival in North Korea.

[edit]
Origins of White Juche and the File:Ruralpp.png Rural People's Party
[edit]

White Juche had it's origins in the US when a homeless Islamic convert John Paul Cupp got approval by the government of North Korea to form the "Sogun Politics Studies Group USA". Cupp had previously voiced support for File:Hussein.png Saddam Hussein, File:Polpot.png Pol Pot and File:Osama.png Osama Bin Laden and had called File:JFK.png JFK's assassin File:Oswald.png Lee Harvey Oswald an "Aryan hero". He was joined by Ziad Shaker al-Jishi a Palestinian American. John Paul Cupp traveled on numerous occasions to North Korea, and received their official blessing to form the Sogun Study Group. Cupp met Joshua Sutter, son of an File:Aryan Nations.png Aryan Nations leader on a pro Khmer Rouge website. Together with Sutters girlfriend Jillian Hoy they formed the Rural People's party. The party was modeled primarily after the File:Peoples Temple.png Peoples Temple lead by Jim Jones, The DPRK and Democratic Kampuchea. And despite the white supremacist backgrounds of it's founders, it preached racial unity. However in an attempt to take control of the RPP he made Hoy get with Cupp. Cupp wound up in a hospital, and he claimed that Hoy poisoned him, and Cupp and Ziad left the group. IT later turned out that SUtter worked at one time for the FBI as an informant on the File:Order Of Nine Angles.png Order of the nine angles, and Cupp alleges that the RPP was created by the CIA to monitor on pro DPRK Americans. The Rural People's Party appears to be inactive and their website has been archived.

WIP

Personality

[edit]

He believes that national unity can be achieved only through self-reliance and national independence. He loves his nukes and is not hesitant to flex them.

Stylistic Notes

[edit]
  • Will get very upset and violent if ridiculed.
  • Temperamental, and will be set off by even the slightest disrespect.
  • Launches nukes at anybody he disagrees with, although the nukes are cheaply made and don't always work.
  • Oppressive in the streets but dirty in the sheets with hot North Korean soldier girls.

How to Draw

[edit]

[!] South Korean law banned the usage of the Flag of WPK and DPRK with some exceptions. Be aware when using this design!

File:Juche flag.svg
Flag of Juche

The design for Juche is simply the flag of the Workers' Party of Korea. The WPK is the dominant political party in the DPRK, of which Juche is the governing ideology.
Drawing Juche is fairly straightforward:

  1. Draw a ball
  2. Fill the ball with red
  3. Add the WPK symbol in yellow (Add a Hammer, Writing Brush and Korean Sickle, symbolising the workers, intellectuals and farmers respectively)
  4. Add the eyes and you're done!

  • File:Multicult.png Multiculturalism - A strange farce to hamstring the essential characters of the Korean nation and seek for “multiracial society” is now being held in south Korea. In this regard Rodong Sinmun today runs a signed commentary, which censures the farce as an unpardonable bid to negate the homogeneity of the nation, make south Korea multiracial and Americanize it. To deny the peculiarity and advantages of the homogeneous nation now that dominationism and colonialism are posing a threat to the destiny of weak nations is a treacherous act of weakening the spirit of the nation, the commentary says, and goes on: The south Korean pro-American traitorous forces advocating the theory of “multiracial society” are riffraffs who have not an iota of national soul, to say nothing of the elementary understanding of the view on the nation and social and historic development.[34]

  • File:BourgNat.png Bourgeois Nationalism - Nationalism emerged as a progressive idea along with the formation and development of each nation. However, it was understood in the past as an ideology that defends bourgeois interests. It is true that in the days of the nationalist movement against feudalism, the newly-emergent bourgeoisie, upholding the banner of nationalism, stood in the van of the movement. At that time, the interests of both the masses of the people and the newly-emergent bourgeoisie were basically coincident in their struggle against feudalism. Therefore, the banner of nationalism seemed to reflect the common interests of the nation. As capitalism developed and the bourgeoisie became the reactionary ruling class after victorious bourgeois revolutions in various countries, nationalism was used as a means of defending the interests of the bourgeois class. The bourgeoisie disguised their class interests as national interests, and used nationalism as an ideological instrument for solidifying their class domination. This led nationalism to be understood, among the people, as a bourgeois ideology that runs counter to the national interests. We should distinguish clearly between true nationalism that loves the nation and defends its interests and bourgeois nationalism that advocates the interests of the bourgeois class. Bourgeois nationalism reveals itself as national egoism, national exclusivism and big-power chauvinism in the relationship between countries and nations; it is reactionary in that it creates antagonism and disagreement between countries and nations, and checks the development of friendly relations between the various peoples of the world.

  1. “Man […] is a social being with independence, […] whereas all other material lives maintain their existence through subordination and adaptation to the objective world. […] On the strength of this quality, man throws off the fetters of nature” - Kim Jong Il, ‘On the Juche Idea’.

  9. Kim Jong Il viewed nationalism as a integral to socialism, defining nationalism as true patriotism, focusing on national independence, self-reliance, and socialism. And he contrast socialist nationalism with bourgeois nationalism which Kim Jong Il viewed bourgeois nationalism as an egoistic, elitist, exclusivist variant of nationalism. Kim Jong Il also believed that nationalism does not conflict with internationalism, believing that every country has its own borders, identity, and the revolution must be carried out by a nation instead of worldwide, and Kim supported any mutual aid and alliance with other countries.
